Turf laying terms
These terms cover preparing ground and laying turf at your property or site. Read them alongside your written quote; the two together form the agreement.
Last updated 24 October 2026
1. How your quote works
We price from the details you send: size, photos, slopes, access and the state of the ground. Each item of work appears separately (for example surface clearing, levelling, topsoil, turf and waste removal) together with the date the quote expires. A large quantity of builders' rubble is a separate line. All figures include VAT.
Sometimes a garden hides surprises, such as rubble below the surface, a larger lawn than described or a trickier route in. When that happens and it couldn't reasonably have been spotted, you'll hear what has changed and what it costs, and nothing extra is done until you agree.
2. Booking and paying
Saying yes to the quote and paying a £100 deposit books your date. That deposit is deducted from the total, and the remainder is payable on the day work starts. Until everything is paid, the turf and materials stay our property.
3. Cancelling: your 14-day right
As a consumer accepting a quote online, by phone or at your home, you may cancel within 14 days of accepting, without giving a reason. Send an email to info@newbuildturfing.co.uk or a letter to the address in section 11.
You can ask for work to begin within the 14 days, in writing. If you then cancel before the start, you're charged only for unrecoverable costs already spent on your job, typically turf cut to order. Once the job is under way, the full price applies.
Wording you may use: "I give notice that I cancel my contract for turf laying at [address], accepted on [date]. [Name, address, signature if on paper, date]."
4. If a date has to move
Turfing depends on the weather and on fresh turf, so a date may need moving because the ground is frozen or saturated, the harvest is held up or an earlier job runs on. If so, you'll be told and offered the next suitable day. If you need to move it yourself, get in touch early and we'll do what we reasonably can. Most gardens are finished within a day, while big or complex jobs can need longer.
5. Getting to the garden
We need a safe way into the lawn area, somewhere close by to unload and access to an outside tap. Rolls and materials won't be taken through your home, so please flag up when asking for a quote if that's the only route.
Point out any pipes, cables, drains, soakaways or sprinkler lines running under the work area, marking them if possible. We can't accept liability for damage to buried services we weren't told about and couldn't reasonably have detected.
6. About the turf
Turf grows in a field, so its shade and texture shift with the season and the batch. Freshly cut rolls sometimes arrive with ragged ends or split into two pieces; that's simply how harvesting works and isn't a defect. Should the turf on your quote run out, a comparable one may be used instead.
7. Looking after your new lawn
Fresh turf needs plenty of water until its roots take, and you'll get written watering and first-mow advice. After laying, whether it roots is down to things outside our hands (water, weather, soil and wear), so we can't guarantee it will establish. Spot a problem? Photograph it and send it over promptly, and we'll help in whatever reasonable way we can.
8. Photographs
Before and after pictures may be taken for our records and to show what turfing looks like. We frame them on the lawn and avoid people, door numbers and car registrations. Just say if you'd prefer yours stay out of our marketing.
9. Our responsibility to you
The work is done with reasonable care and skill. If you suffer loss or damage that was a foreseeable consequence of our breaching these terms or being careless, we're liable for it. Unforeseeable losses and losses to a business aren't covered.
These terms never limit liability the law won't allow to be limited, including for fraud and for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Your statutory rights are unaffected.
10. The small print
Personal information is handled under our privacy notice. We may revise these terms; the version live on the day you accept your quote is the one that counts. They're governed by the law of England and Wales; customers in Scotland or Northern Ireland keep the protection of their own law and may use their local courts.
